WINTEX : Weaving Innovation Among Academia And Industry In The Tunisian Textile Sector

Research Team: Thin films and Nanomaterials
Project Manager: Wissem CheikhRouhou Koubaa

Overview

The priority of the WINTEX project is to fill the existing gap in the area of specialised services for the textile sector, through the establishment of three textile innovation centres in participating universities in Tunisia. These centres will become a key element in the development of innovations in the textile sector and in the rise of entrepreneurship.

At the start of the project, WINTEX partners determined the status of the textile industry in Tunisia and areas of collaboration between the textile industry and academia. Subsequently, recommendations were made to help and promote the textile industry and summarise its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. WINTEX could smooth the way for ideas on the future of the industry, based partially on smaller industry 4.0 factories that are flexible, versatile and capable of rapidly serving European markets with strict environmental and social regulations, where the workforce is well distributed between technology suppliers and maintenance, under supervision, logistics, design, methods and quality control, etc.

The project is coordinated by INTEXTER of the UPC. Other participants are the Catalan technical textiles’ cluster AEI Textils and five other partners: the University of West Attica (UNIWA) and CRE. Thi. DEV in Greece, CIAPE in Italy, the University of IASI in Romania and cedecs in France. The consortium is completed with six Tunisian organisations: three universities (the University of Sfax, the University of Monastir and the Higher Institute of Technology Studies Ksar Hellal-ISET); a cluster (MFC-Pole); the Tunisian Association of Textile Researchers (ATCTex) and the Digital Research Centre of Sfax.
